Senior Assistant Coach 2020-21 Season
The Organisation:
Sydney University Sport and Fitness (SUSF) is a dynamic organisation providing sporting, recreation and fitness services to the University and general community. The Sydney University Cricket Club (SUCC) has a rich tradition within the sporting landscape at the University. With 155 years of history, SUCC is one of the oldest sporting clubs at the university and one of the oldest cricket clubs in Australia. SUCC is one of the most successful Premier Cricket clubs in Australia with 4 Club Championships, 6 First Grade Premierships, 3 First Grade Limited Overs Premierships in the past 2 decades. In 2019-20 SUCC won the First Grade Limited Overs, 3rd Grade and 4th Grade Premierships, and finished 3rd in both the Spirit of Cricket and the Club Championships after winning both awards in 2018-19.
The Opportunity:
The Club seeks a dynamic individual to undertake the role of Senior Assistant Coach to further advance the development of an environment for players to reach their potential on- and off-the-field. The Senior Assistant Coach is responsible for contributing towards a high-performance coaching program that will drive team success across all grades in the NSW Premier Cricket competition whilst developing individual squad members to reach their cricketing potentials. There is also a particular focus on the PG’s U21 Team where this person will be expected to lead this group throughout their series (approximately 5-6 Sundays) as well as contributing to the running of training on a minimum of 1 night per week (approximately 4.30pm-7pm on either Tuesday or Thursday), but ideally 3 nights per fortnight.
Who Are You?
It will go without saying that you will be an astute cricket coach (Ideally Level Two Coach) with outstanding communication and relationship-building skills. You will understand that winning is important, but winning in the right spirit, even more so. You will have exceptional tactical and technical knowledge of cricket, and the tools to impart that knowledge to a playing group that is strong-willed and curious in nature.
What’s in it for you?
A fantastic career opportunity for a talented coach to be exposed to a modern, high performance system, with a winning culture, elite-standard coaching support & facilities, and excellent network & pathway opportunities to build your coaching career. SUCC strives to develop players that are ready to take the next step, and it is no different with its coaching staff. You will have access to the various personal development opportunities that the SUSFs High Performance Department hosts, including seminars by respected sport professionals.
The Finer Details:
It will be a part-time fixed-term, or independent contractor position. Remuneration will be up to $10,000 depending on experience, skills and ability to commit time during the season.

Lewis Bedford, who played for SUCC in 2017-18, has been elected Captain of the Durham University Cricket Club.
Durham University is an MCC centre of excellence, and its schedule includes first-class matches against county sides at the beginning of each season. Lewis made his first-class debut for Durham in 2019, but the club’s program for 2020 was destroyed by the Covid-19 lockdown. Lewis will now take charge of the club until the end of the 2021 northern summer.
