Next week is the 115th anniversary of the club's initial 1st Grade premiership. On Saturday 14 May 1910, SUCC, chasing only 135, defeated Central Cumberland by one wicket in the 1st Grade final at the SCG.
The winning runs came when last batsman, left hander Lisle Terrey, mis-hit a shot that evaded "deep slip" and the ball scuttled away to the boundary. His partner, who helped him add the 29 that they needed for victory when the ninth wicket had fallen, was all rounder Andrew Watson.
Within 18 months of the premiership, Watson set out from Hobart bound for the Antarctic with Sir Douglas Mawson as part of one of the heroic journeys of Australian exploration.
