Firstly, congratulations to Ryan Danne for his maiden Premier Cricket century during Third Grade's comprehensive win against Mosman, where he also passed 2000 runs for the Club in all grades. Any other week, Ryan would have been honoured Player of the Round, however, we can't go past Nick Larkin's commendable innings in First Grade.

The First Grade captain hit an outstanding 246 from 276 balls, including five 6's and 25 fours, during their win against Mosman. This was Nick's highest score in all grades at the Club, and marks his 13th First Grade century. During this match, Nick also passed 5500 runs in his First Grade career and he is the second player (behind Greg Mail, who has three) to score two double centuries in First Grade.

Congratulations to Nick on being named Surjit's Player of the Round for Round 10 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition. We admire your dedication to the sport and wish you the very best for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Over a number of seasons, Catherine Craig-Dobson has very generously volunteered to score for Second and Third Grade on many occasions. Catherine has been a fantastic asset to the Club and is always willing to offer her assistance on game days when we are short-handed.

Ed Cowan has been named Player of the Round this week following his performance during Round 9 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition as Sydney Uni took on St George to retain the O'Keeffe-O'Sullivan Trophy.

Ed scored 120 runs from only 88 balls, making his 13th century in First Grade and 3rd century against St George. Ed is the third batsman to reach 7000 runs in First Grade and has now taken over Adam Theobald (8191) to become third on the Club's list of runscorers in all Grades.

Due to technical difficulties last week, the Player of the Round and Clubperson of the Round for Round 7 have also been included in this week's post.

Alex Shaw is well-deserving of being named Surjit's Player of the Round in Round 7 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition, making his maiden century and highest score of 119 runs during 3rd Grade's match against Northern District. This brings Alex to a total of 223 runs for the 2017-18 season so far.

Tom Draca is also worthy of being named Player of the Round following his performance in Round 8 of the Metro Cup where he claimed an outstanding 7-32 from 6.5 overs. At 17 years of age, Tom is a talented young athlete and is sure to have a successful cricketing career ahead of him.

Since being injured, Lewis McMahon has continued to show his commitment and support of the Club on and off the field. Lewis has generously put in a huge effort at No.1 Oval to help out 1st and 2nd Grade each week including match day logistics and assistance with the canteen. Lewis also kindly led the Saturday morning kid's program over the last few weeks in Dale's absence.

Nicky Craze is well-deserving of being named Player of the Round for Round 8 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition after another match-winning performance against Fairfield-Liverpool with 162 not out. This marks his highest score for the Club, in any Grade, and his second century for Second Grade. 

Congratulations, Nicky, on being named Surjit's Player of the Round this week and best of luck for the remainder of the 2017-18 season in the new year.

Ash Cowan has consistently and generously given up his time for the Club from week to week, helping with the covers at Camperdown Oval and assisting with multiple tasks in Dale's absence. Ash was also the driving force behind cooking and cleaning the BBQ on Saturday night, demonstrating that he is always willing and eager to help out.

At only 15 years of age, Shivansh Pathak demonstrated a match winning performance in 5th Grade during Round 6 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition, taking 5-17 from 10 overs against Sydney Cricket Club. Shivansh joined Sydney Uni Cricket Club in 2016 and has since reached a total of 19 wickets.

Special mention also goes to Jack Hill for his 110 in 3rd Grade and Steven Hobson for his maiden century in 1st Grade with 109.

Congratulations Shivansh Pathak on being named Surjit's Player of the Round for Round 6 of the competition, and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Merv Danne, father of Ryan Danne, has been a massive help for the 3rd Grade team this season, turning up to their matches each week and running drinks out to the team when fielding. Merv also assists with gameday logistics, helping to prepare tea, washing dishes, and providing overall assistance behind the scenes. Merv kindly lended a hand with the covers at Camperdown Oval and very generously took one of our injured players to the hospital for further treatment.

Nicky Craze displayed fantastic batting skills in Round 5 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket competition making his maiden century for 2nd Grade, scoring 129 runs against Penrith. Nicky's performance in Round 5 places him fourth in the Top Ten Runscorers with a total of 251 for the season so far.

Over the last two weeks, Tom Fullerton very generously volunteered to travel to Camperdown Oval to help with the covers on both Friday's, despite his team playing at Penrith. Tom was a massive help to the groundstaff and ensured that the game was able to be played on both Saturday's.

Steven Hobson was a standout performer in Round 4 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket competition, where he belted an outstanding 229* runs, leading the 2nd Grade team to victory against Hawkesbury. Hobson's notable contribution to the scoreboard placed the Students in a strong position following their innings as the team declared at 6-420.

Tom Galvin is well-deserving of the Nag's Head Clubperson of the Round following his efforts off-field over the past couple of weeks. Despite being selected in 4th Grade for Round 4, Tom generously spent both Friday's at Camperdown Oval assisting with the covers to ensure the 3rd Grade team were able to play. His contribution and commitment to the Club is greatly appreciated. 

Special mention also goes to the whole 3rd Grade squad for their assistance with the logistics after a tough round at Camperdown Oval.

Congratulations to Tom who receives a $100 Nag's Head voucher, and as a special thank you, "admin" has arranged a bonus $100 Nag's Head voucher for the entire 3rd Grade team.

Fourth Grade captain, AJ Grant, displayed fantastic all-round skills during Round 3 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket Competition where he contributed 101* runs to the scoreboard for Sydney Uni, coming close to his career best of 110*. Grant continued to showcase his skills with the ball, taking 2-13 from 8 in the first innings and 1-4 from 5 in the second innings to reach a total of 139 career wickets and take home a win against Wests.

The friendly, polite and likeable Liam Whitaker is the Nags Head Clubman of the Round for Round 3. Liam is always the first to ask how he can help out: whether at training, around the grounds or off-the-field. Liam has assisted with the small things that few notice, such as packing up training kit, acting as a guide for new players, scoring, drinks preparation, moving equipment/clothing and just generally making the Club a friendlier place.

In a round dominated by batsmen, Tim Ley's contribution with the ball in First Grade's win against Blacktown was a standout performance during Round 2 of the NSW McDonald's Premier Cricket competition, taking an impressive 6 wickets for 18 runs. Tim first played for Sydney Uni in 2004 and has since totalled an outstanding 468 wickets, placing him seventh on the list of all time wicket takers, closely shadowing teammate Tom Kierath on 474.

Tim's bowling abilities have greatly contributed to the team's success as a standout quick in the competition. His commitment to the team and determination will continue to lead the bowling attack throughout the rest of the 2017-18 season. 

Notable mentions include Ben Trevor-Jones' maiden First Grade century (144), Damien Mortimer's unbeaten century, James Larkin's 96, Lewis Bedford's 93, Lewis McMahon's 5-61, Shehan Canagasingham's 5-28, and Billy Barge's 4-16.

Josh Toyer's commitment to Sydney Uni Cricket Club throughout the 2017-18 season has been second to none. As a well-loved club member and teammate, Josh generously volunteered to score for Third Grade whilst out with an injury during the opening round and has also assisted with multiple operational tasks off the field.

Josh has also volunteered as the Club's delegate to the Sydney Cricket Association for 2017-18, which gives him a role on Sydney Uni Cricket Club's board, demonstrating his ongoing passion and commitment to the sport.

Liam Robertson’s hitting abilities were the highlight of the First Grade match during round 1 of the McDonald’s NSW Premier Cricket competition for 2017-18. Robbo belted 102 runs from 84 balls as he led the side to a total of 5-297 and a win for the defending premiers.

Liam debuted with Sydney Uni Cricket Club in 2006 and has now scored 4653 runs with an average of 27.05, with a highest score of 193. Liam is now within sight of becoming the 23rd Sydney Uni cricketer to score 5000 runs for the Club (though he will likely be the 24th with Ben Larkin only 10 runs from that mark).

Congratulations Liam on claiming the opening Surjit’s Player of the Round Award for 2017-18.

Jono Craig-Dobson has proved himself as a perennial clubman leading into the first round of the 2017-18 season. Jono has been the driving force of training sessions during the absence of Gary and the Red Bull squad who recently competed in Sri Lanka. Special mention also goes to Jono’s mother, Catherine, who regularly volunteers as scorer for Jono’s teams. Jono has been described as an unheralded clubman by his fellow teammates.
