The weekend rain put a stop to cricket in most parts of Sydney, but couldn’t slow down Varun George. Varun hit his first century for the club (111 not out, from 125 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes) to help steer Second Grade to an impressive victory over Eastern Suburbs. It was Varun’s fourth Premier Cricket century, and fourth in Second Grade (the other three being scored when he was with Mosman). His unbeaten 83 against Bankstown the following day was his first half-century in Poidevin-Gray matches.
James Larkin shared a third-wicket stand of 110 with Varun George in the Second Grade match against Easts. His 55 was the ninth time he has passed fifty in Second Grade (including one century), and during his innings he passed 1000 runs in Seconds and 3000 runs in all grades for the club.
David Miller, with 42 in Second Grade, took his tally of runs in all grades to 4077, passing Chris Williams (4035) and Peter Hamblin (4066) to move into 35th place on the club’s list of run-scorers.
In Fifth Grade, Tom Hill’s 5-27 almost forced a win for University and gave him his first five-wicket haul for the club.
