Nick Larkin continues to demolish records in the Futures League. In last week’s match for ACT/NSW Country against NSW Metropolitan, he hit 189 and 129 not out, his sixth and seventh centuries in the competition. He passed 1500 runs in the Futures League (he now has 1707 at an average of 81.28) and he completed a remarkable sequence of four successive centuries, following his 210 against ACT and 212 against Victoria for NSW last season.
Damien Mortimer made his Futures League debut for NSW Metropolitan against ACT/NSW Country, and in between chasing balls hit by Nick Larkin, did very well with the bat, hitting 61 and 49.
Ben Joy’s acrobatic, one-handed catch to remove James Psarakis gave Ryan McElduff his first wicket in First Grade against Western Suburbs on Saturday.
When Devlin Malone dismissed Wests opener Isaac Taylor last Saturday, he collected his 200th wicket in Premier Cricket (146 in all grades for Sutherland, and 54 for Sydney University).
During his unbeaten 50 against Western Suburbs in Second Grade on Saturday, Ben Larkin passed 5000 runs for the club in all grades. He has become the 23rd player to reach that milestone, and later in his innings he passed 1980s stalwarts Keith Pitty (5009) and Geoff Cooper (5015) to climb to 21st on the club’s all-time list of run-scorers.
Steve Hobson hit his ninth century for the club in Second Grade’s match against Western Suburbs. It was his sixth century in Second Grade, and only Adam Theobald (13) has scored more in that grade for University.
During his outstanding all-round performance against Western Suburbs, Fourth Grade captain AJ Grant took his 50th wicket in Fourths.
Shehan Canagasingham took his first Fourth Grade wickets in the match against Western Suburbs.
In Metropolitan Cup against University of NSW, Jazz Rinka followed his excellent innings last week by capturing his first five-wicket haul for the club (5-40).
