Day 2

Sydney Uni 8/257 (Dec) - A.Theobald 75, P.O'Halloran 27, D.Miller 27, T.Ley 22*, J.Kags 21* Def Sydney 124 - M.Culkoff 5/24, S.Keshar 2/22, T.Ley 2/50

Uni boys arrived at Drummoyne at 830am for an early start to be greeted with a pitch with 2 holes dug into it at both ends just on a good length...the ground staff did well to have the pitch ready for play by 11am

Theo lost the toss and boys were sent in...The larkins opened up and looked steady early on before gerkin was dismissed trying to hook their opener...
The big ship played himself in and together with Benny Lurkin they looked to build another solid partnership, before he was dismissed by the other opener caught behind

Rig came and went without troubling Les, and was left to feel like a 'nuffy' for the rest of the day because he cant bowl or throw just yet - I am sure Rig will bounce back and get another ton against Parra this round (funnily enough I said this last year for Rig the round before Parra in the match report, and it came to fruition) time will tell if your scribe has any psychic ability

The big ship batted well for his 75, the rest of the batting line up contributed double figures except for 1 guy who needs to work on his rig a bit. Pegs and MILF batted well for 27 a piece and the bustler and plugger scored some quick runs towards the end of our innings with the occasional horn by both.

The good guys dec at 257 giving us around 55 overs to get the 10 poles and take the points....
With a short session before tea, the uni lads opened up with the bustler aka sweating buckets Kagzooooolgis and plugger. Kags grabbed the 1st wicket for uni boys before the tea break.

After Tea, Plug and your scribe continued with plugger grabbing the 2nd wicket for the uni boys with a nice grab from pegs at 2nd slip. Wickets came steadily and the Uni boys had the Sydney wa-wa tigers reeling at 7-78. The last 3 wickets took a little longer than expected to grab, in particular one of the Sydney bats was a little stubborn and plug was getting a little annoyed to say the least. Plugger then proceeded to bowl a few 16 yard deliveries in which funky reported to the rest of us in our fines meeting 'that one delivery in particular was just like where he bowls at training' Quality!

Shashi aka Chris Rock (thats a weekly) was the man who got the nuisance out for plugger, cleaned bowled and then the next wicket caught by funk at deepish mid off.

The final wicket fell soon after and was caught by James 'Slinky' Crowley or better known as spider by some.

All in all a good solid performance by the good guys, who sit nicely in 3rd spot on the ladder!

Week 2 Sydney Uni vs Sydney

Unfortunately the dates for this years game were all wrong,  this weeks match really should have been played 2 weeks earlier on the 7th day of the 2nd month of the year (it certainly would have helped this opening line make some more sense).  I am sure anyone who has been keeping informed regarding the state of 3rd grade Nash will know who the victors on the weekend were (and indeed who the victors for the remainder of the year will be), but it is worthwhile noting that the winning margin was indeed 5 goals to the oldies (you guessed it the score was 7-2).
Deciding to continue on with the bat, the sugar glider and the wise one took to the hapless Sydney bowlers accumulating 7 fours and 2 sixes in quick succession.  While tempting to watch us bat for longer, captain Ward thought it was best to declare before Ben (can I do something) Joy was given such an opportunity
However, once play was underway, Ben (0 wkts) Joy took advantage of being on a cricket ground for the first time in a month (it must be said that his side watching capabilities have been well and truly tested for the past 3 weeks).   As though he was making up for lost time, Ben (0 wkts) Joy tormented the Sydney batsmen, who genuinely played and missed for the most part of an hour.  While Ben was beating the bat for fun, the young and inexperienced BJ kept the other end tight, in fact BJ’s seven  overs resulted in only two runs (note: this statistical reference is probably made up, but BJ did bowl well).
Keen to continue on from where the openers left off, your scribe thoughtfully and calmly set his bowling field.  With all parts of the ground well covered with fielders, and captain and bowler happy, I began to bowl (Note: Danny Ward may share a different opinion of these events).   Fortunately, regardless of field placements and perhaps some slightly irrational (but well justified and executed blow ups), wickets continued to fall throughout the day.  The Uni boys were clinical with the ball and even more so in the field (in particular some spectacular fielding efforts from Ben “made a contribution” Joy).   The Sydney team simply cracked under the applied pressure, to be bowled out 40 runs short.
Hopefully we can take this momentum and hunger to win into the remaining two rounds of the season to try and secure a finals birth for 3rds!!

Yours Truly
Mark “7/2” Hackett
